NEW BRUSHMONKEYS

Congratulations to the new Brushmonkeys in Pierce County ESAR. You are now on call for any mission in the State of Washington. To those that completed Course 3 but were unable to attend Course 4, you can respond to any mission in Pierce County.  If on any mission is an overnight mission you will earn your Brushmonkey Certificate. For all new members, missions maybe a little light for now, but you never know when the first one will come.  Be ready, equipment ready at all times, you must be ready to go without hesitation. We have found in the past that when the economics is difficult, people seem to want to go into the woods a little more.  If that is the case now, we can expect to be searching for those that are a little unaccustomed to being in the woods.

BOARD MEETING

To everyone new to PCESAR, you are invited to the Board Meeting which is always held on the 1st Thursday of every month.  The meeting this month will be on the 2nd of April.  Adults in ESAR are expected to participate as a Associated Advisor in the Explorer Program. There are many positions in ESAR that need to be filled by those dedicated to making this the best program for young people.  Even if you are not a Brushmonkey and you have a interest in seeing this program grow, please attend the Board Meetings.  This organization needs your help in many different areas.

DAFFODIL PARADE

On April 4th, ESAR will be a Unit in the Daffodil Parade.  Rendezvous with Curt Read and the ESAR Truck and Van, plus Trailers at 7th and Pacific Ave at 0800.  Bring a 48 pack, with stuffing, rain gear, food, water and anything you might need for the day. Wear ESAR hat, coat or shirt, (hope it warms up) for the parade.  Park near the 21st and Pacific, then walk to the rendezvous with everyone else. We will be in 4 parades for the day and will finish about 1700 hours.  If you need additional information, call Curt at 253.227.6995. or e-mail him at curtread [at] hotmail [dot] com.

RV GRANTS

ESAR has been granted $25,000 from the Employees Community Fund of Boeing Puget Sound for purchase of a RV.  We plan to use the money to purchase an RV vehicle to use as an Operational Center for missions.  We have applied to Puget Sound Energy for an additional $30,000 to aid in the purchase, plus the equipment we will need in the RV. Without this grant we would have had to work at least 40 games with 20 people per game to gain the same amount of money.  Thanks to everyone that helped us obtain the Grant from ECF of Boeings.

SAFECO

Andy Florek, Coordinator for ESAR to Safeco field has a Monitory Alcohol Service Training class scheduled for April 6th at Peace Community Center, 21st and So. Cushman at 1800 hours.  If you are 21 years of age and going to work at Safeco, you will need to have this permit. It is good for 5 years and ESAR pays for the permit.  It costs ESAR $35 for each permit. This is the only money raising that ESAR does.  Please attend with anyone in your family that is 21 years of age and older.  Anyone can work for ESAR in the booth at Safeco.  You can see we have games to work on the 17th and 22nd of April.  Sheri Florek in manager of the 17th and Andy Florek is manager on the 22nd. There is a need for a Manager on May 3rd. If you can help, see Andy on the 6th at the MAST class at PCC or call him at 253.617.8068 or e-mail him at esarflorek [at] aol [dot] com.

So you know the rendezvous area, it is located in Fife across the street (south) from the Poodle Dog at 5310 Pacific Highway East next to the Baskin-Robbins in the corner parking lot. If you are working at the game, be sure and be on time. The traffic to Safeco can be headache at that time of day. The Unit has to be there  3 hours before the game, so the booth can open 2 hours before game time. Thanks to those members and family members who have signed up to help.  It is better than 60 car washes!!!! If you have not volunteering and you want to help, contact Andy ASAP. Everyone is ESAR needs to help out!!!! If you are 16, you can work at Safeco also!!!

WESAR MEETING

WESAR will have meeting on April 18th at 1000 and will last until @1400 hours. This is your opportunity to find out the other ESAR Units are doing in the State.  We are member and there are 6 other ESAR units in the State.

If you want to know what is going in the state of Search and Rescue, this is your opportunity to attend and meet others in ESAR.  Meet them before you meet them in the middle of the night somewhere in the State on a mission.

Huffy Bike raffle for WESAR.  WESAR has been donated a Huffy Bike, 26 inch wheel, alpine bike to give away by a raffle.  The cost of a raffle ticket is $1.00 or 6 tickets for $5. Attend the meeting and get yours and it could be the lucky winner.  The bike will be drawn for at the Washington State Conference in May.
